Yoga and meditation can help to open and balance your energy centres, and are most effective when you carry an awareness of the areas where you, personally, are more active and inactive. This questionnaire will assess the openness of your chakras, from root to crown, giving you beautiful insight into yourself.

Each chakra is a spinning wheel of energy at a specific point in your body that is affected by your thoughts and feelings. There are 7 chakras located along your spine from your tailbone to the top of your head.
A practice in kundalini yoga is the fastest way to balance your chakras because every kundalini yoga kriya (set of exercises) is designed to raise energy from the lower chakras to the higher chakras and to expand this energy out into your aura, the electromagnetic field that surrounds you.
The first three chakras are called the 'lower triangle'. In the words of
Dharma Singh Khalsa
in Meditation As Medicine, "when we're stuck in the lower chakras, we can feel a separation from our higher selves and suffer from the polarities of the material world."
Consult the table below to determine where your lower chakras may be out of balance:
Chakra |
Underactive |
Overactive |
Balanced |
1. Root chakra - Muladhara |
You worry about your basic needs like health, money and life in general. The future always feels uncertain. |
You feel a deep sense of attachment to your things and maybe even obsess about getting more. No mather how much you have, it's never enough. |
You feel secure and stable. You have a strong sense of self and feel confident about where you stand and how you stand in the world. |
2. Sacral chakra: Svadhistana |
You feel listless and tired. Your sense of creativity and passion are blocked - there is little to no energy flow. |
You can become overly pre-occupied with your sexuality. Your A-type personality often leads you to burn-out. You may have a tendancy to manipulate others using guilt-trips to get what you want. |
Your life is colourful, vibrant and filled with meaning. You are in the flow and able to move in rhythm with the music of life. |
3. Navel chakra: Manipura |
You lack confidence in yourself and your abilities. Often you feel like a victim of life, helpless and out of control. You may overcompensate by becoming more controling. |
You have an unsatiable hunger for power that is never satisfied. |
You feel empowered, whole, and fully integrated. Your projection is strong and you listen to your gut. |
Use the following affirmations to bring your lower chakras into balance:
1. Root chakra |
I feel safe
I am secure
I belong
I am grounded |
2. Sacral chakra |
I can expand
I can be spontaneous
I am connected
I am in the flow |
3. Navel chakra |
I can persevere
I can choose
I can commit
I can keep up
I believe in myself |

The higher chakras are called the upper triangle and consist of the heart centre, the throat centre, the third eye and the crown. In kundalini yoga, the aura is included as the 8th chakra.
Consult the table below to determine where your higher chakras may be out of balance:
Chakra |
Imbalanced |
Balanced |
4. Heart chakra - Anahata |
An out of balance heart fears losing the object of its desire, which often means you are attached to love. You may also end up caring for someone else at your own expense, letting their needs override yours. |
A balanced heart holds a profound love of self and love for another which is unconditional and without judgment. You realize pleasure and pain are equal, and you cultivate compassion for yourself and others. |
5. Throat chakra - Visuddhu |
It's easier to twist and / or omit the truth or plain out tell lies rather than speak honestly. You can easily blame others, gossip, lie to yourself, and engage in other forms of denial because honesty hurts too much. You tend towards addictions and addictive behaviour. |
The throat is the gateway between the head and the heart. When you feel balanced in the throat chakra, you easily reveal your authentic self and risk being vulnerable. You speak your truth with compassion and clarity. |
6. Third eye - Ajna (sun) |
An imbalance in the ajna centre can lead to confusion, depression and a disconnect from your inner voice. |
You feel intuitive. You can rely on your intuition to put you in the right place, at the right time, so you can take the right action. You have a clear mind and act from clear thinking. |
7. Crown chakra - Sahasrara |
You've lost sight that you are a 'human being' not a 'human doing' because you are caught up in all the 'doingness' of life. You may fear loss or death or knowing your true self. |
You're able to perceive the infinite nature of life and connect to a sense of boundlessness. You easily surrender to a higher power and trust in its benevolence and grace. |
8. Aura - The elecro-magnetic field |
A weak aura shows up in your projection: dim energy, pale skin, and an overall weak presence. |
You are a radiant, uplifting and inspiring spirit. You light up a room with your beautiful glow. |
Use the following affirmations provided by Guru Rattana, Phd to bring your higher chakras into balance:
4. Heart chakra |
I at peace within
I am happy
I am vast
I am neutral
I am compassionate |
5. Throat chakra |
I am free to speak my truth
I am at peace expressing myself |
6. Third eye chakra |
I can look inside and get an answer
I am in the right place, at the right time, taking the right actions |
7. Crown chakra |
I am aware of a larger reality
I open to a higher power
I am one with the universal intelligence |
8. Aura - The elecro-magnetic field |
I am expansive
I am radiant
I am in charge of my energy |
