As a woman, you are cyclical in nature. You are continuously cycling through the changing energies of the menstrual cycle. Many of you will cycle through the trimesters of pregnancy; with all of you moving towards the ultimate rhythms of menopause.
Within each of these life stages, your body is communicating with you. Your body is constantly sending you intuitive messages. When you learn how to tune into these messages you can bring balance to your mind, body and emotions. - Why Do Women Get PMS?
Why Do Women Get PMS?
Is it poor diet? Is it too much stress?
Is it lack of exercise?
These can all be contributing factors, yes.
The bottom line is that women get PMS because they don’t understand their cycle.
How much do you know about your menstrual cycle? Do you feel grossed out just by the word menstrual?
Now we’re getting somewhere. What you resist persists.
The first step towards moving past PMS is the acceptance of your cyclical nature. Unlike men, women are not linear. They go through four distinct phases in their cycle that gives rise to four distinct women.
Imagine how good your sex life would be, if your partner understood the four different women that emerge every month and when to expect them!
More importantly, think about how good you would feel if you knew how to go with the flow as your energy and moods change throughout the month.
Pre-ovulation, ovulation, pre-menstruation and menstruation are four very different times of the month for women.
As you get into rhythm with your cycle, you can overcome PMS and actually benefit from the pre-menstrual time!
The week or so before your period, often characterized as your “bitchy” time of the month, is actually the most creative period of your cycle. Did you know that if you channeled your aggressive energy towards physical or creative exercises you would be working with the flow instead of against it?
Anger and frustration during PMS are the result of not going with the flow.
After ovulation, your hormone levels change, and progesterone starts increasing. This is the body’s natural way of getting ready to hibernate and rest.
If you try and force yourself to be action oriented during this phase, it’s unlikely to feel good. The natural rhythm of your cycle is to slow down before your period. This is a good time to write and reflect on what’s happened over the previous month.
It’s also a good time to channel powerful emotions. If you are feeling angry or scared, get outside and take a walk. Better yet, practice a powerful yoga set. Do something physical to move the negative emotions out of your system. Not only will you feel better you won’t have to deal with a painful period.
